A few months ago, Colombian-American actress Sofia Vergara explained the reasons behind her divorce after 10 years of marriage. Although court documents cited “irreconcilable differences,” Vergara later clarified in an interview that her decision was influenced by her desire not to be an “old mom.” At the time, actor Joe Manganiello was 47 and Vergara was 57.
In an interview, Vergara shared, “I’ve recently divorced my second husband after being together for a decade. The marriage ended because he was younger and wanted to have children, while I felt that being an older mother wouldn’t be fair to the child. I respect others who choose differently, but that’s not a path I want to take.”
In an interview with Men’s Journal, Joe Manganiello shared, “In the first year and a half, we did attempt to start a family. Early in our relationship, we had a serious discussion where I told her, ‘If you’ve decided against having children, I’ll understand. Just let me know, and I’ll accept that.’ But that wasn’t her decision,” he explained. “I assured her that I would stay, no matter what, and I’ve kept that promise.”
He further clarified that the decision to end the marriage was not solely because of the issue of having children. Manganiello added, “It’s because two people grew apart, and sometimes that happens. To suggest that I had some sort of midlife crisis and, after nine years, gave an ultimatum of, ‘Do this potentially unhealthy thing to your body, or I’m leaving,’ is not who I am.”
The couple announced their separation in 2024. Vergara is currently dating Dr. Justin Saliman, who has made notable appearances at her birthday celebrations. Meanwhile, Joe Manganiello is dating actress Caitlin O’Connor and is enjoying his time with her. Although he didn’t mention her by name, he mentioned it’s nice to have someone to talk to at the end of the day.
