Marvel Update: Russo Brothers in Talks to Direct Next Avengers Films

Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, the acclaimed American producers, directors, and screenwriters, are in early discussions to direct the upcoming Marvel “Avengers” films, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Previously, Marvel’s production company had launched an extensive search for filmmakers to helm the fifth and sixth Avengers movies. This search, though lengthy, is now nearing its conclusion. Among the names considered was Shawn Levy, known for directing “Deadpool” and “Wolverine.”

The potential hiring of Anthony and Joe Russo, who are known for their work on popular shows such as Arrested Development and Community, as well as Marvel hits like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame, marks their return to the Marvel franchise.

The Russo brothers have established themselves as major players in Hollywood with their production company, AGBO, delivering blockbusters such as Everything Everywhere All At Once, Citadel, and Extraction. They have also directed Marvel films, including Cherry (2021) and The Gray Man (2022), and the sci-fi adventure The Electric State.

Earlier, the film was titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and featured Jonathan Majors. However, he was later removed from the project. Marvel has not yet commented on this change, but an announcement might be made at the San Diego Comic-Con panel next Saturday.
